My main argument in favor of sketching is that there is no new media which I am aware of that can approach sketching in efficiency and speed hence cost effectiveness at present or in the forseeable future in a commercial setting. That is why every design office which I am aware of in the world uses sketching as a primary tool for product design. So to train product designers without that skill would be to train them for positions which do not exist in industry today and may not exist for decades.
