Dear Colleagues,
As an architect, I would like to intervene. If you are looking for the
beauty of the bridge, think about architecture. In present-day society
there is division of labor. Civil engineers deal with the structural
issues, but they are not trained in the art of achitectonizing. It takes a
lot of time to master both of them. Architects are the people who engage
in architectonics and shape the build environment to the laws of beauty
(and function, I would add).
Of course, the best option is a specialist with dual education. I know that
in France there is a famous school for bridge designers (sorry, forgot the
name). They recruit people with degrees in civil engineering and subject
them to systematic training in architecture. A similar example can be made
with Santiago Calatrava, his training, and his architecture. His
architecture is more about bridges than anything else.
Regards,
Lubomir
