Dear GK Van Patter:
In your last posting you note that "in our universe it is critically
important to have considerable precision as we move from a client's initial
fuzzy situation towards defining what the challenges and or opportunities
actually are. We know that words are an important part of that precision."
In the spirit of precision, I'm hoping that you'll be willing to clarify a
few of the terms you used in your post. I have no doubt these terms are
well-accepted in the arena in which you work, but they are not part of the
lingo in my "universe."
Firstly, you note that "As we contemplate a new and perhaps more dominate
role for judgment in a new field of design, let us not forget that divergent
idea creation, pattern creation plays a huge role in all the design
industries." Could you explain what you mean by "divergent idea creation"
and "pattern creation"? Are they in this case both synonyms for
"originality"?
Secondly, you ask "Does anyone see any opportunities for next design in the
above-described ecology?" It sounds here as though you are using the term
"next design" as a synonym for "improvement." But later in your post you
state that "In the (distant) future I believe it will be understood that
next design is at the center of human-to-human interaction innovation," and
the meaning of "next design" in that sentence is not at all clear to me.
Thirdly, you state that "We believe mastery of enhanced process tools, HOW
tools, not WHAT tools, in one form or another, is key to navigating the
B4Design opportunity space." I can only hazard a guess as to what you mean
by "B4Design opportunity space," so if you could (briefly) expand on that as
well, I'd be grateful.
thanks,
Carma
