Design Philosophy Papers (www.desphilosophy.com) is calling for papers on
the theme of Using It All Up: User-Centred Design, for publication in a
special issue during 2004. The theme can be taken up in several ways, such
as:
1. Critical, historical accounts or more recent case studies of the
philosophy or application of user-centred design – its achievements and
failings – whether aspects of it have potential to counter the dominant
condition of unsustainability and contribute towards sustainment
2. Philosophical interrogation of the basic terms of user-centred design
(like: use, user, centredness, function, functionality, need)
3. Theoretical explorations of the relation between user-centred design and
ontological designing (i.e., the designing of the designed). This topic
requires a familiarity with the ontological tradition in philosophy and/or
how this has been taken up in contemporary design theory.

We seek thoughtful, provocative and well informed papers from between 2,000
to 5,000 words. Submit 200 word abstract by 15 December 2003 to Anne-Marie
Willis, Editor [log in to unmask] If your abstract is accepted,
guidelines and a deadline for paper submission will be issued. All papers
submitted will then be refereed.
