The Victorian photographer J C Burrow took many underground pictures. I noted in the Welsh Mines Society (newsletter 48) that a presentation was made by Chris Williams at the summer 2--2 including "photographs of under ground scenes in Cornwall" published 1893 as "Mongst Mines & miners". More recently
Landmark have published Victorian Slate Mining - which their website states " the book features some fine examples of pioneering underground photography by J C Burrows"
He also took a set of underground picture at Coalpit Heath (and possible other Bristol Pits) which are in various record offices and have appeared in many publications.
Has anyone on the list done (or at least know of) any research into who this man was. particularly the extent of his photography.
Many on the list will know Steve Grudgings and the quality of his photographs. He has volunteered (?) for the role of tracking down which photos exist relating to South Glos/Bristol and preparing an article on the many and the set of local picture for a future SGMRG newsletter.
Any info would be appreciated
Regards
David Hardwick
