PhD Studentship Opportunity in the the History of Medical Technologies
The Manchester Wellcome Unit, in association with the Thackray Medical
Museum Leeds, has the opportunity to apply to the Wellcome Trust for a PhD
award in the history of modern medical technologies. The aim is for the
student to benefit from the combined strengths of the Manchester Unit in
the history of modern medical technologies and the Thackray collections of
surgical instruments, prostheses, hearing aids, and the medical supply

Applicants should have a Masters in history of medicine, or a related
field. Further training courses are available in the Wellcome Unit and in
its parent department - the Centre for the History of Science, Technology
and Medicine. There is a very tight deadline with this studentship, so
applications must be in by 4 April 2003. Informal enquiries and requests

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae (including the names of two
referees) and a letter outlining their relevant interests, training and
career plans to the address below. Suitable applicants will be interviewed,
and the successful candidate will develop a full proposal, with assistance
from staff at the Unit and the Museum, for submission to the Wellcome
Trust's History of Medicine Panel.
