As the replies to my email of last week have spluttered to a halt, below is
a summary of responses:
* WDC library advisers seem quite happy with the status quo and a bit
threatened by the suggestion of an LKDN-equivalent for the libraries
themselves.
* Trust library managers often don't know what LKDN is up to.
* Trust librarians are involved in LKDN working groups, but the focus
of the groups is decided by LKDN and doesn't reflect trust-level issues.
* The LKDN agenda is primarily concerned with WDC- and regional-level
issues.
* Trust librarians are often meeting and planning/coordinating within
WDCs/regions but there is currently no higher forum/coordination for them
* With the best will in the world, it probably isn't possible for a
full-time WDC library adviser to keep abreast of the issues facing Trust
libraries.
* Many of the issues facing trust libraries are not concerned with
education, but relate to primary care, clinical governance, knowledge
management and supporting clinical services and management
The question is, what to do about it? for what they're worth, my
suggestions are:
* Either, LKDN could reconfigure to give airtime to trust-level issues
* or, existing Regional/WDC library networks could link up in some way
- perhaps something as simple as the chairpeople liaising ?
* or, an LKDN equivalent is created.
I'd be grateful for views
