Afternoon all
A completely different query from this morning's: has anyone who has gone
through the merger of a former PGMC library (though now re-branded and
serving all Trust staff) and a library mainly used by nurses (though also
open to all Trust staff), found that non-professionally qualified staff
(cleaners, porters, whatever) are too intimidated to use what they perceive
as The Doctors' Library if they are starting NVQs, or any other course of
study, after a gap of maybe 30 years or so? Some of our management are
afraid this will be the case if/when we merge the two libraries here. I
think they fear that the needs of nurses & other staff will be ignored, &
such facilities as they have at present will be subsumed into something
which will just be the PGMC library by any other name.
We are hoping to have a brand new building in the next three years, which
wouldn't carry the stigma(!) of having been a PGMC, but we could merge now
in what was the PGMC, with a little good will & shuffling round. We feel
that we could provide a better service to ALL staff if everything they need
was in one block of the site.
N.B. There is no problem with the library staff, just the management - so
what else is new?
Any experiences to share?
