I've had another response to my query on teaching qualifications. This seems
to be a very popular topic. If I get any more I will post them on the list
as quite a few people have expressed interest in this.
As an ex-teacher I find that the PGCE (and teaching experience) was useful
but I don't think it is necessary - though a school librarian could then do
some locum teaching in their school (if they make sure they get paid at the
teacher's level!!)
Any librarian doing teaching would benefit from courses on methods, learning
styles, techniques etc but shorter, more focused courses would be sufficient
and better for the sort of teaching most librarians do (adolescent
psychology is not needed for a start)
Best Wishes
