CAT AND CLASS: IT'S OK FOR ANYONE!
(Two days), 28 & 29 October 2003, London
OK, or organisation of knowledge, is central to the effective function of any information service.
The established skills developed within librarianship provide both effective systems for this process, and also the conceptual tools for developing and tailoring in-house approaches appropriate for any organisation.
BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING
This two-day workshop provides a basic introduction to the skills of information organisation in the context of library and information services and a broad based framework built from principles and practice that participants can take away and develop in their own organisational context.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The workshop content is informed by the major international standards, which are used for knowledge organisation in libraries, including the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Dewey Decimal Classification and MARC format for computerised cataloguing and thesaurus. These tools are used in the workshop exercises. This allows participants to develop a basic understanding of the principles involved, which will then inform their approach to information organisation back in the workplace.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is ideal for information workers who are new to this area.
WORKSHOP LEADER: Keith Trickey, Senior Lecturer, Liverpool Business School.
FEEDBACK FROM PREVIOUS PARTICIPANTS:
"Very enjoyable and easy to understand."
"Good mix between lectures and practical sessions."
