If you are referring to limits by location or material type in the WebOPAC
these limits are based on bib records and not items. Material type limits
use one of the BCODE fields, e.g. BCODE2 which many libraries have renamed
MAT TYPE. Location limits use bib locations but you have a choice of
mapping all or some item locations as they are as bib locations or to map
a group of item (shelving) locations to a bib location which could be a
building or a branch.
To answer your specific questions you can allow limits to "main collectin"
or "reserve collection" based on the bib location, but a reserve item
which is in the reserve collection within the main library will not be
retrieved when a search is limited to "main collection". (I'm assuming
that "main collection" can be interpreted as "main library" here.)
To answer your second question, since material type limits are based on
a single code in the bib record it is currently not possible to do what
you describe below. Some libraries are using scoping to overcome some
of this limitation.
