Colleagues from FISH may find of
interest another discussion forum
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/facetedclassification
(http://poorbuthappy.com/fcd/)
Most of discussion on this list is focused on encoding languuge (XFML
www.xfml.org)
and possibility to encode controlled vocabularies (terms often used
are faceted vocabulary/
polyhierarchies/dynamic taxonomies)
Some tools (software demonstrator) are made available for testing and
concern regarding the
interface supporting interactive search and browsing facets was
mentioned on a few occasions.
I hope this is not entirely redundant

Subject: [FISH] FW: ANNOUNCEMENT: 6th NKOS Workshop at JCDL Conference
Morning all,
I thought this might be of interest - my apologies for cross-posting.
NKOS ( http://nkos.slis.kent.edu/ ) is a mainly US based group that
works on similar sorts of things to us, as you can see.

Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT: 6th NKOS Workshop at JCDL Conference
Dear NKOS Members,
I am pleased to announce that the 6th NKOS Workshop will be held in
connection with the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries in Houston,
TX on May 31. This workshop will focus on the transformation of
traditional knowledge organization systems(KOSs), such as
classification schemes and thesauri, to new forms of knowledge
representation such as ontologies, topic maps, and semantic Web
components, where relationships between concepts are richer and more
extensive and in which the requirements of computer processing are
met. The session will include discussion of the contribution of
principles from more traditional practices to the design of new
knowledge organization systems and exploitation of the extensive
intellectual capital available in traditional KOSs in the development
of new forms of KOSs.
The presentations and discussion should be of interest to developers
of both traditional and newer KOS tools.
Watch the JCDL homepage (www.jcdl.org) and this list for more
registration and program details.
So please mark your calendars for NKOS ON MAY 31. We hope to see you
there.
