With apologies for cross posting.

Editor, "The Subject in Question"
"The Subject in Question" is a joint project by the Public Record
Office and the University of London Computer Centre (ULCC),
supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, to develop a UK Archival
Thesaurus (UKAT). UKAT is intended to provide archives and
archive projects with a common subject vocabulary for use in
indexing collections, thereby promoting greater consistency in the
index data created for the national archives network. Particular
emphasis will be given to incorporating terms reflecting the
histories and experiences of groups which are under-represented
among archive users.
We are seeking to recruit an Editor, to be based at ULCC, who will
develop UKAT by incorporating terms and relationships submitted
by archives and archive projects into a thesaurus derived from the
UNESCO Thesaurus. The Editor will also produce material for the
project's website, and will promote the project through outreach
activities directed at archivists and archive users.
The successful candidate should have substantial experience of
subject indexing using one or more controlled vocabularies, and an
understanding of the principles of thesaurus construction.
Experience of using the UNESCO Thesaurus would be highly
desirable. Ideally, you will be a qualified archivist; at a minimum,
you should be familiar with archives and the environment in which
archivists work. You should also have good interpersonal,
presentation and time management skills, and an understanding of
the need to promote social inclusion.
The appointment will be for 13 months. Starting salary will be in the
range £22,445 -£26,255 inclusive of London weighting (points 6-10
on the national scale for academic-related administrative, library
and computer staff), dependent on background and experience.
The closing date for applications is 27 March 2003. For an
application form and job description, visit ULCC's website
