On Drowning:
I can't recall whether the drowning scene in Ramsay's _Ratcatcher_ went
underwater. It seems there were some underwater sequences. There is
also a drowning scene (in a car) in _The Stunt Man_ with Peter O'Toole,
and a foretold and envisioned drowning scene in _The Mothman
Prophecies_. Then there is the drowning and re-awakening that happens
in _The Abyss_.
Also: you might look at some of Bill Viola's work. I know that in
_Angels for a new millenium_ (an installation piece I saw at the D'Offay
gallery in London) there were several scenes of people apparently
drowning and then reemerging from the water (like death and
resurrection), but I think that this is a motif in some of his other
more readily available work (what is out there is available through
Facets) -- apparently he had a near drowning experience as a child.
Maybe somebody else knows names of some of the other pieces.
