FACULTY - PHILOSOPHY #2919
The Philosophy Department at the University of Southern Maine (USM)
announces a tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall 2003. Rank is
open. The teaching course load is six courses (18 cr.) per year, four at
an introductory level.
Area of Specialization: Late Modern Philosophy.
Area of Competence: two of the following three: Epistemology, Medieval
Philosophy, Semiotics.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy completed by August 31, 2003.
This position is seeking a candidate who has a record of successful
teaching, evidence of a defined research/scholarly agenda and recognition
of the importance of service to the university and the community. We hope
to attract faculty/staff who share a commitment to diversity, tolerance and
an active examination of ideas that can provide our students with a greater
understanding of the richness and complexity of our society.
The Philosophy Department at USM is intentionally pluralistic. It
emphasizes the history of philosophy and takes seriously the teaching of
introductory courses. It has strengths in continental philosophy, American
philosophy, comparative philosophy and applied ethics.
