Dear Richard:
I recently read your wonderful piece on Altman's California Split on the Senses of Cinema site, and am writing to see if you, or anyone else in the Salon, knows where a copy can be purchased. It seems to never have come out on either VHS or DVD in the United States. It's one of my favorite movies about gambling, and the high stakes card game at the end is stunning (and demythologizes the Cincinnate Kid's climax, one of Altman's many deflationary tomes in those days). It is also one of Altman's most nihilistic pieces, which is saying something.
All the best
Dan Shaw

Subject: Letter from Tehran
Dorna,
I don't know if anyone has already suggested this, but Trafic, the
Paris-based publication, has been publishing a series of 'Letters from' various cities
around the world and may be interested in publishing the Tehrani's account. It
should definitely be made more widely available.
