I am trying to track down the origins of the term "mockumentary."
Even with the aid of Roscoe & Hight's informative book on the genre, I have
not been able to track down the term in print prior to a 1992 NY Times
review of Tim Robbins' _Bob Roberts_ (Marin, Rick. “Greed, Lust and Ambition
Rule in Hollywood D.C.” New York Times. New York, N.Y.; Oct 25, 1992).
Although I have found frequent journalistic references to "mock documentary"
going back well into the 70s, one would suspect that the terms would have
fortuitously collided somewhere between _David Holzman's Diary_ (1967), and
_Spinal Tap_ (1984).
Is anyone on the list aware of when, where, or by whom the term was coined?
Grateful for any leads.
