Thanks for the message Dan. I was beginning to wonder if I'd not worded my
question well. While I do acknowledge that at a particular level *all* films
are arguably ideological (as one respondent pointed out), I was trying to make
the point that these films are perhaps unique in that they take ideology as
their very subject matter (as opposed to implicitly interacting with various
specific ideologies). And while some other film makers you mentioned are
concerned with ideology - Godard or Bertolucci - it is relatively new for
Hollywood to concern itself with ideology...isn't it?
so can I repeat your question:
