Film is one of the biggest capitalist industries on
the planet and most of the work is aimed at the
Saturday night youth audience because they are the
primary consumers. While film may have at least some
philosophical interest, let's not get carried away
with this - however encouraging European-Continental
philosophy may be.
A large part of it is just about making corporate
money. Money is money, just like a cigar is
(sometimes) just a cigar.
Incidentally, I think there was definitely a strong
commercial motivation for The Matrix. Does that
matter? Maybe not - I didn't say it did.
