i've certainly heard that the unicorn footage came
from the cutting room floor after legend.
I think the interesting thing about directors cuts and
alternative versions is that it's taking films back to
some of the problems we have in literature with
multiple editions and authors being allowed to
endlessly tinker and revise. The Prelude is a
notorious for existing in so many versions that it is
impossible to agree on one. I say problems but of
course there's nothing necessarily bad about this. It
is further complicated by the deleted scenes that dvds
allow us to see. In some instances this widens the
frame of the movie and in some offers diverse
possibilities. Things the character said or did that
you simply didn't see. Seven has a fascinating
pre-story scene. Donnie darko also offers a variety of
marvellous possibilities. What I want to know is what
we can do with this? As viewers will we be free tor
eject these versions. or will they contaminate each
other? And what is the film maker is deliberately
filming deleted scenes? Does this mean that what films
are is going to morph?
