Did anyone see 'In the Cut' in London on Wednesday night? I'd be
interested to hear people's views on it.
I thought it was great I have to say, that nervous camera zoning in on
the tactile details of a neon-glowing dark & twisted New York,
close-ups on hands touching, skin etc., creating a paranoid atmosphere;
like Alice down the rabbit hole as Jane Campion put it. Also liked the
way she used focus to lead the eye round the frame leaving the rest in
a surreal blur, adding to the sense of confusion, of a strange new
world.
That said, I was disappointed by part of the first love scene between
Malloy and Frannie - why the unimaginative shot/reverse shot missionary
position that's been seen a million times?
