Pretend, a digital video feature that explores the relationship between
narrative and the divided frame, will be showing at the Vancouver
International Film Festival this upcoming week.
Any on the list who are attending the Vancouver International Film Festival
or are in the Vancouver region will, I hope, come and check it out

Ed Halter in the Voice said that Pretend was "a new graphic vocabulary," and
chief NY Times film critic A.O. Scott called it "a harrowing, dazzling
feature." The whole idea of Pretend is to see how and in what ways a divided
frame - from as few as two to as many as 12 and 16 grids - can be used as a
narrative form. I call this 'multichannel narrative.'
There will be a panel where James Benning, Elizabeth Murray and I discuss
our work: MEET THE FILMMAKERS PANEL: 11 AM Wed., Oct. 8 in Granville 7.
I'll also be present at both screenings.
Thanks
Julie Talen
