Has anyone seen the Korean movie OASIS?
Comes to mind reference narration discussion.
There is a scene between a character (like DeNiro's Johnny Boy in Mean
Streets) who goes to the apartment of a cerebral palsy woman whose
brother was killed in an auto accident attributed to the Johnny Boy
character.
Eventually there is some physical interaction that is often described
as a rape scene but with all the flailing around between these two, it
is hard to tell and hard to watch what is going on.
SPOILER
and then comes one of the most poignant scenes I have ever seen...
The cerebral palsy woman (apparently believed to be a rape victim by
most of the audience) struggles the next day in front of a mirror to
put lipstick on (this is not easy with all her spastic shaking) in an
attempt to beautify herself for her beau.
The point is that the audience can only interpret the previous 'rape'
scene after seeing the later 'lipstick' scene. Interesting narration,
to say the least.
If you haven't seen OASIS, consider seeing it. It was one of the
invited movies at CANNES.
