Further to postings here about the state of contemporary film criticism, I'd
like to draw attention to a polemic I submitted to an American website
relating my experiences at the hands of a Cambridge UK lifestyle website that
is currently the subject of defamation proceedings against me. Leaving aside
the petty dispute between affronted writer and pompous 'Creative Director'
that it details, the piece exemplifies the impoverishment of this aspect of
film culture with yet another grassroots example. For the sake of the wider
issue that I felt to be at stake here, I am considering a court appearance.
For his solidarity in ignoring the plaintiff's 'instruction' to remove the
offending piece, Editor Tom Graney is to be applauded. The piece - The Ad Hoc
Affair - can be found by searching the archive at www.hollywoodoutsider.com.
Enjoy!
