[Posted recently in the Inst. of Arch., UCL:]
I am the Managing director for the Graduate Journal for Social Science,
www.gjss.org. The journal deals specifically with interdisciplinary
methodology and we are currently in the process of reviewing papers for the
first edition. The papers are reviewed through a peer review process and
through an academic board. I have a few papers which deal with both
Archaeology,Gender and Sociology. As I currently do not have anyone
suitable for reviewing this paper, I am hoping to invite suitable PhD
students to be guest reviewers.
Students are expected to read and assess this paper within a given time
frame. PhD Students who are interested should email me,

Yours,
Esther Foreman

Once again I am happy to announce the upcoming IAMS Summer School.
This annual two week event. will feature "Ancient Mining Technology"
and "Ancient Smelting and Metallurgy", and will take place from
Monday June 16 until Friday June 27 2003
at the
Institute of Archaeology
University College London
31-34 Gordon Square
London WC1H 0PY
United Kingdom
(For a map, see www.streetmap.co.uk, using the London post code WC1H 0PY).
The first week (16 to 20 June 2003) will cover all aspects of ancient
mining technology, drawing from an extensive range of case studies across
the world.
The second week (23 to 27 June 2003) will cover a wide range of archaeo-
metallurgical lectures, beginning with the archaeological evidence for
copper smelting in the Middle East and Thailand, and leading to important
specialist topics such as Metals in Numismatics, lead smelting, and the
interplay between metallurgy and ceramics and glass, respectively.
The lecturers for the two weeks include Professors Tim Shaw, Beno
Rothenberg, HG Bachmann, VC Pigott and Thilo Rehren.
The fee will be GBP 50 per week, or GBP 85 for both weeks (or 15 pounds for
a day). We regret that we can not assist with accommodation and meals, but
London offers a wide range of options here...
The courses are intended for anybody interested in early mining and
metallurgy, and require no existing specialist knowledge. However,
opportunity will be given to explore specific aspects in more detail,
within the given schedule. Both weeks can be taken independently from each
other.
Further details can be found at www.ucl.ac.uk/iams/ , or contact Xander
Veldhuijzen at the Institute of Archaeology / IAMS at
