Hi Jordi,
Pompeii again! I found mineralised Citrus sp. pips at Pompeii in pre-79 AD deposits.

Subject: Citrus in roman times
Dear colleagues,
I am finishing an study of the archaeobotanical collection from the archaeological excavations of Herculaneum carried out in the XVIII century, and now in the Museo Arqueologico Nacional in Madrid. I have documented two Citrus charred fruits, and also some other remains: Vitis vinifera L., Ceratonia siliquia L., Pinus pinea L. and Prunus sp.
In relation with Citrus sp., I know the presence of pollen grains in Pompei and roots prints of lemon tree in Oplontis. Of course, there are some pintings and musivum representations of lemons, oranges,... in the Vesubian area. Anyone know some other reference of this kind of remains in other areas of Mediterranean area for the Roman times?
Thanks in advance.
Jordi Juan
