Dear collegues,
enclosed you find photos from medieval bulbs (c. 1-1,5 x 2 cm) from
southern Spain. The images are showing uncarbonized bulbs (2 from
dozens), unearthed at the islamic palace: the Alcazaba of Almerķa. The
layers are dating before 1. half of 11th century AD because then they
were covered by well datable floors. The bulbs and additionally some
seeds must have derived from the palace gardens and are assumed to be in
situ. I tried to determine the bulbs but up to now without success. Wild
tulips are different as well as Gladiolus italicus or other species with
attractive flowers.
Any ideas???
Merry christmas and a happy new year
