We use 110 x 80mm Thermo Pack - Cool Pack from HAYLEY BAVERSTOCK, Unit
1b, Riverside Park, Wimborne, Dorset BH21 1QU, 01202 881555. We keep
them frozen down in the freezer and attach to samples with a rubber
band. Then poly bag/absorbant and seal in a polystyrene box. We buy 100
per6 months. Cost is 90p each.
They do not always work - our longest journey is Lewisham to
Hammersmith Hospital for the gut hormones.
Some get returned - but much cheaper than a thermos.
Being contentious and tongue in cheek: If we had Pathology/Biochemistry
self sufficiency within each of the 5 London sectors - perhaps with the
specialist tests being done in labs on the outskirts - rather than
relying on transport into central London it might help.
1. Travel outwards from the centre is always faster then inwards at the
times we are likely to send samples !
2. No delays whilst couriers find somewhere to park around the central
hospitals so that they can deliver into the labs without getting
clamped/fined.
3. Lower overhead costs for non central location ?
