We currently operate an external QA scheme for our blood glucose meters
(BAYQAS), both for users within our Trust, and for users in the Community
Trust. We have charged for this service to our outside users. As the
number of users has increased recently with the PCT's, we are in the process
of extending this, and wondered what charge (if any) other Biochemistry
Departments make for 3 monthly distributions and result reports per year to
each user. Or perhaps these Departments might make provision of an EQA
scheme part of their SLA with their Community Trust. I would be grateful
for any feedback on this.
Also, we have a DCA 2000+, now 4 years old, used solely for our Paediatric
Diabetic Clinic, and Adolescent Oncology. QC is done regularly, as of
course is EQA, together with the required instrument checks. Do other users
still have an annual maintenance contract (I am awaiting the exact cost of
this), given the instrument's ease of use, and general minimal maintenance?
We have had no (known) problems with it, and our Paediatric Nurses are
anxious to avoid any unnecessary spending, although they have been
recommended (by Bayer) to take this route as the machine is ageing!
Many Thanks in advance for your comments,
