Subject: Re: Document control software
Thanks. Does anyone disagree with any of the following?
1 This is an important topic, and it's going to get bigger as we become
more accountable to more and more agencies.
2 The content should be provided through web browsers and also be able
to produce printed copies, which should be pdfs. The use of web
browsers provides transferability across systems and distance and they
are already installed and free. Many users for the foreseeable future
will want paper copies. pdfs lock the format, and provide
transferability. (For UK users these are the eGIF standard tools for
these tasks.)
3 We need to share both the experiences in making this work, and the
knowledge content. Otherwise it's just too big a task for individual
laboratories.
4 A single topic conference would be a good idea. It should include:
* Demonstrations of available products
* The experiences of users
* The CPA angle
* The rôles of suppliers: should they offer content?
* If possible the experience of other sectors
