We have a problem interpreting a Plasma Renin Activity result and I would appreciate any assistance anyone may care to offer. We are using a kitset (Clinical Assays/DiaSorin) assay to generate Angiotensin 1 at pH 6.0, at both 4 degrees and 37 degrees, followed by RIA. We occasionally find a slightly elevated result from the 4 degree generation but not usually over 2 or 3 ng/mL/H. We now have a patient from whom we have had three samples over the last 9 months who has on each visit had a 4 degree result of greater than 20 and a 37 degree result of greater than 50. I had earlier thought this was due to poor sample handling but now I am not so sure. We ask for all samples to be drawn into EDTA tubes and handled at room temperature before the plasma is separated and frozen until assaying. Can anyone explain please?
Many thanks
John
