J.P . is a 73 year-old lady with a long history of obstructive cardiomyopathy which has now entered the dilated phase so to speak. Her urea is always around 10 to 11 mmol/l.The other day a random Troponin-t ,not associated with cardiac symptoms was 0.2 and ck 206. Randon Troponins are usually within this range. Is this raised troponin due to chronic ongoing cardiac damage? Are Troponin assays subject to interference from heterophilic antibodies as we see with other immunoassays? Any ideas. It goes without saying that I will get one of my colleagues down the road to do a troponin-i foe me.
