Dear Colleague,
Re: NHS Consultation On Technical And Laboratory Aspects of the
Implementation Of Antenatal & Newborn Screening for Sickle Cell Disease
The consultation documents regarding universal screening for sickle cell
disease in England should have had been circulated to the ACB for comment a
little while ago. ( 'The NHS Haemoglobinopathy Screening Programme would
like to consult you or your organisation on a number of processes for the
screening of newborn babies for sickle cell disorders and women for sickle
cell disorders and thalassaemia in the antenatal period.') .
The documents are probably of greatest relevance to combined chemistry and
haematology laboratorians and of course newborn screeners. The closing date
for comments is the end of July 2003.
I have discussed this with Miss Janet Smith, ACB Chairman, and agreed a way
forward via the mailing list. Please visit the following website for the
relevant documents:

and send any comments you may have to the email address, telephone or fax
numbers shown there.
:Best wishes
