I am not convinced that it is good idea to calculate HOMA at all. The CV
for repeated HOMA indices in the same patient is about 50% using a single
insulin assay, and 35% if three insulin specimens are collected and the
result averaged or the test is repeated and the results averaged. Matthews

Please respond to John
Speed
Goodmorning.
One of our diabetologists has asked me whether it is acceptable to
calculate HOMA and other indices using an insulin assay that has some cross
reactivity to proinsulin - eg the Immulite method.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
With kind regards
John
