We charge £30/year/site to PCT's. ALL GP sites are supported for the usual bits - pregs, glucose, urine testing. The fees includes retraining / provision of qc/ monthly qa.A1c /acr in the community is £200/annum/site. We don't charge our own Trust. If I did I'd be a bloody millionaire. However I'm not totally daft as we xcharge all our consumables to all sites ie strips from Path and we put a 'handling charge onto these'

WE also currently run an EQA scheme for blood glucose meters (Medisense),
with samples supplied by Randox but in the near future changing over to
WEQAS. Once we are happy with the running of this scheme we will extend this
to PCT's, so I therefore would be interested of any other users who send out
samples to PCT's and what they charge for each sample sent.
The Lab also maintains and runs IQC daily for 3 blood gas analysers around
the hospital and have just started EQA for these analysers. This would be an
oppertunity to get the users to run IQC daily instead of Lab staff. Is this
too ambitious and does it cause to many problems, such as daily QC not being
run.
Thank you for any comments

Subject: Query re EQA
We currently operate an external QA scheme for our blood glucose meters
(BAYQAS), both for users within our Trust, and for users in the Community
Trust. We have charged for this service to our outside users. As the
number of users has increased recently with the PCT's, we are in the process
of extending this, and wondered what charge (if any) other Biochemistry
Departments make for 3 monthly distributions and result reports per year to
each user. Or perhaps these Departments might make provision of an EQA
scheme part of their SLA with their Community Trust. I would be grateful
for any feedback on this.
Also, we have a DCA 2000+, now 4 years old, used solely for our Paediatric
Diabetic Clinic, and Adolescent Oncology. QC is done regularly, as of
course is EQA, together with the required instrument checks. Do other users
still have an annual maintenance contract (I am awaiting the exact cost of
this), given the instrument's ease of use, and general minimal maintenance?
We have had no (known) problems with it, and our Paediatric Nurses are
anxious to avoid any unnecessary spending, although they have been
recommended (by Bayer) to take this route as the machine is ageing!
Many Thanks in advance for your comments,
