I've received the following request from a member of the national critical care network mailbase:
"Hi - does anyone have any guidelines for use of ear lobe gases please? We are keen for our senior physios to be able to take them but would like to compare our thoughts with some other trusts. Thank you, Jackie"
I've suggested that she should contact her Trust Biochemistry department in the first instance, for advice and or existing guidelines, if any, but that doesn't seem to be fashionable advice. Of course it may be that she has already done this.
Does anyone have experience of physios taking such samples and using blood gas analysers? I have absolutely no problem with this as long as they are properly trained and everything is done in accordance with Trust Policy and Clinical Biochemistry involvement.
