Regarding Document Control Software:
We currently use a mixture of in-house (based on MS Access) and commercial
software (Q-Pulse) but there are other products on the market. You may have
noticed an advertisement on page 835 of the August 2003 IBMS Gazette for
"Lab Passport" software. This software looks to be specific for Hospital
Labs and appears to do most things required for CPA Accreditation - I
haven't had time to evaluate it myself yet but it might be worth a look.
The website for the software is...

Subject: DOCUMENT CONTROL
I am sure most of us are building a Quality Management system to comply with
the new CPA standards. It also goes without saying that document control is
an integral part of this process. While it is not necessary to do your
document control on a computer most of us would think a computer was
essential for this process. What software would listeners recommend? Is it
possible to use EXCEL for this purpose or should we purchase a commercial
product? If so what suitable document control/quality management products
are on the market?
