We once experienced the same. The explanation was that the refrigerator alternatingly froze and thawed the samples. Althou equipped with a fan, the bottom of the refrigerator got too cold when the aggregate switched on.

We use BD Vacutainer SST II tubes (yellow top). Has anyone witnessed
formation of a concentration gradient in the serum of tubes stored overnight
at 4°C?
We would be interested to hear of this or any other similar problems
associated with the use of gel tubes.
