The Committee of the Official Statistics Section of the Royal Statistical
Society seeks new members for the 2003-4 session. The Committees main work
is organising meetings - finding speakers and discussants and arranging for
publicity. The Committee also plays a part in developing RSS responses to
government consultations on statistics.
You don't have to be a Fellow of the Society in order to be a member of the
Committee. What is needed is an interest in official statistics and other
facts about government and society, and an interest in the ways such
statistics relate to public policy matters.
Where you live is not a barrier to membership. The Committee conducts a
growing proportion of its business by email. There are five or six
Committee meetings a year in London, but the Society pays travel expenses
and supports telephone participation.
For further information contact me or another member of the existing
Committee: Simon Briscoe (FT), Sarah Cheesbrough (ODPM), Chris Dibben
(Oxford U), Glenn Everett (ONS), Paul Hewson (Devon), John King (ONS), Rob
Lewis (GLA), Jon McGinty (ONS), Greg Phillpotts (ONS), Paul Smith (ONS),
Peter C Smith (U York), Humphrey Southall (Portsmouth U), Cathal Walsh
(T.C.Dublin), Chris Wright (Bank of England).
