Speaking out to a design community of such large size is a rare opportunity. The discussion has been directed towards the schooling process of design and ways of improving this process. The process of design has always improved because of the positive energy applied to it over time by strongly minded individuals with a common interest.
In sending this message my only hope would be to contribute to this process. As a design school graduate, and an individual who has felt rather lucky at times due to my exposure to this process. I would feel an important part of the process of design is the fostering of ways for individuals to fund their ideas in ways to benefit themselves and those around them. This has always seemed imature to me.
Example: Designs introduce wonderful projects everyday using any number of materials. Once these projects have been acceped either through buying, or giving, or exchanging, they will at some time be thrown away. If we should consider ourselves an important part of the process, shouldn't we start to think of ourselves as partially responsible for the long term effect of our designs. If this is true then wouldn't we consider this as part of the education as well. Certainly in design education a student should be educated to the full process of design.
