Hi
What to say about Planet of the Apes (1968), Blade Runner (1982), or
Total Recall (1990).
I believe that if you dig Hollywood Science Fiction genre you'll find
more on the way.
I don't believe this is new in Hollywood, like anything else. I believe
that we can find new ways, new approaches. But finding new and unique
thoughts communicated by a medium with more than one century and with
millions of films done, it'll be hard.
What do you think?

Subject: Re: film and ideology
Thanks for the message Dan. I was beginning to wonder if I'd not worded
my
question well. While I do acknowledge that at a particular level *all*
films
are arguably ideological (as one respondent pointed out), I was trying
to make
the point that these films are perhaps unique in that they take ideology
as
their very subject matter (as opposed to implicitly interacting with
various
specific ideologies). And while some other film makers you mentioned are
concerned with ideology - Godard or Bertolucci - it is relatively new
for
Hollywood to concern itself with ideology...isn't it?
so can I repeat your question:
> Examples of that in previous film history are harder to
find...any
> further suggestions?
>
or can i conclude that yes, they are unique and representative of
something
new?
Thanks
Kate
