Subject: Guidelines/precautions regarding samples from patients with
SARS?
Dear collegues!
In our laboratory, we have become somewhat confused regarding the necessary
precautions when handling samples from patients with suspected or confirmed
SARS.
What guidelines would you recommend or refer to regarding handling such
samples? I am here refering to samples of whole blood, plasma, serum and
urine. Possibly also pleural fluid.
The guidelines from WHO so far has concentrated on the handling of the
patient, and with some recomended measures regarding contamination with
biological fluids, but with little regarding handling of diagnostic samples.
I would suspect that this could depend somewhat on the kind of samples in
question (sputum/blood-urine).
