Hello everyone
A consultant colleague went out for a meal last night and had an odd
reaction afterwards (bright red rash face and trunk, confusion,
disorientation, itching soles of feet). He ate tuna, and a colleague at the
same meal (a departmental party) also had the tuna and could not finish it
because it "made her mouth feel funny".
This sounds awfully like scombrotoxic fish poisoning to me, and since we
have a urine sample taken at the time of symptoms, it would be really
useful to have a methylhistamine assay done. However, PRU Sheffield tell me
that Pharmacia have withdrawn the assay and they have been unable to find
an alternative source.
Can anyone help? Do any of the GCMS wonks out there fancy having a play
with it??
Any assistance gratefully received. You will appreciate that the
Department's credibility is on the line here!!
Cheers
Mike Hallworth
