I agree with you, Trevor,(we must be of the same era),
I was surprised, as a chief MLSO, teaching basic
glucose metabolism, (as a consequence of POCT of
glucose) to Diabetic Nurse Specialists and medics, how
little they knew about basic concepts, such as
pre-analytical factors and when to repeat a glucose
after intervention.
As I said in my first response to the increases in
workload, the laboratory professionals, and managers
have to get out of their labs and tell the medics that
x and y test isn't necessary, because we know more
about clinical biochemistry than they do. But the
problem is I think we are as culpable, in not teaching
our own laboratory staff to question ¿"why so many
smaples"?
