In answer to a few questions sent privately:
We use the BRAHMS Lumitest PCT immunoluminometric assay. The assays are done
once daily in the lab, Monday-Friday. Over weekends we can do the
semi-quantitative PCT-Q but the quantitative assay is much preferable. We
find we don't need to calibrate daily; for quality control we use the qc
samples supplied in the kit, plus a pool of patients' plasma with a PCT a
little over the reference limit. There is more information at
www.procalcitonin.com including collected references.
