One of our haematologists has a teenage patient who has started weight
training (?duration) and is also taking dietary creatine. An increase in
the patient's serum creatinine has been noted (I haven't seen the results,
but believe the increase is small). While it is recognised that the
increase may be due to increased muscle mass, the question has been asked
as to what effect (if any) the creatine has on the creatinine measurements
- either analytically or physiologically. I have checked our package
inserts (Roche creatinine assays, Jaffe and enzymatic) but creatine is not
mentioned as a (tested) interferent.
Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks in advance.
