Autocard scanning is brilliant and transforms the scene for storage and
getting information when authorising.
We have come up with an additional use which others may have cottoned onto.
We also scan in reports from other labs. This means that the top copies
can go to the ward and a paperless record remains in the lab.
A major advantage is the reduced chance of transcription errors if reports
are copied or entered, especially for complex and textual reports.
A disadvantage is that the results will not appear in LIMS though it is
easy to construct sets referring to the scanned reports.
Surprisingly, all the returned reports and the request form can use the
original lab number and you can flick from one to the other when
authorising - terrific.
