Richard:
I hate to disillusion you, but FAXes are NOT always seen and/or
acted upon
For example, I was requested by someone in our finance
department on Friday to FAX something to be actioned by 11:30.
On Monday afternoon they phoned to say it hadn't come (nor the
confirmation copy by 1st class post), despite us having a
transmission confirmation. They received the re-transmission on
Monday
A relevant issue is the use of departmental document centres.
Despite their ability to use different coloured paper for different
things, not everyone activates this and it is not unusual for person
A's urgent FAX to get binned with person B's unwanted/failed print
job. Even if they do (as with our finance colleagues), things can still
go wrong and (as with the mail) "proof of despatch is no proof of
receipt"
Best wishes
David
PS: a bane of our life is people who send us a 2-page FAX and
when it fails after page 1 re-send it in the original configuration
(sometimes many, many times) so all we get is multiple copies of
the cover sheet and no useful information whatsoever . . .
