AACC MAKES CONNECTIVITY STANDARD FUNDING AVAILABLE
The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and
Connectivity Industry Consortium (CIC) joined efforts to publicize,
promote and administer point-of-care (POC) connectivity standards for
clinical laboratories in January.
Since then, AACC has reviewed and funded an NCCLS effort on
connectivity and the translation of a report on the connectivity
standards in Germany. AACC is seeking additional proposals to fund
including, but not limited to, the following:
* Speakers or demonstrations about the standard at professional
meetings in the US and worldwide;
* Development of educational materials for customers and vendors
about POC connectivity solutions;
* Projects to develop reference materials or validation suites for
POC connectivity.
Proposals must include a description of the project or activity; its
objectives; the project manager's name, CV, including contact
information; a cost estimate; and a timeline (if applicable). All
proposals will be reviewed by CIC. Interested parties should submit
written proposals to Polly Stepleton at [log in to unmask] or by mail
to her attention c/o AACC, 2101 L Street, NW, Suite 202, Washington, DC
20037.
Formed in February 2000 by more than 50 POC diagnostics manufacturers,
information-management companies and healthcare provider organizations,
the CIC successfully developed POC standards that allow multi-vendor
interoperability and bidirectional communication between POC devices,
data concentrators, and clinical information systems. These standards
also comply with all applicable regulations. Copies of the standards are
available from NCCLS (www.nccls.org <http://www.nccls.org/> ), HL7 (
www.hl7.org <http://www.hl7.org/> ) and IEEE (www.ieee.org
<http://www.ieee.org/> ).
The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) provides national
and worldwide leadership in advancing the practice and profession of
clinical laboratory medicine and its role in improving health care. Its
members develop and perform tests conducted in hospital laboratories,
clinics, medical centers and other health care settings.
