A personal view from Finlay MacKenzie.
As far as summarising EQA data is concerned, the UK NEQAS
Birmingham approach is to summarise the performance of any
individual assay using the Penalty Box Plot of B scores versus C
scores. If you want to combine data across a single scheme, then
the Graphic Equalizer Plot of A scores will do this nicely. If you
want to see how your immunoassay analyser is performing then
simply stick the Thyroid and Steroid Graphic Equalizer Plots side-
by-side.
EQA schemes should be providing you with the right data in the
right format to obviate the need for any re-typing or re-working of
statistics.
The UK NEQAS Birmingham Roadshows have been banging home
the message that you only have to drill down through a report as far
you need to. If your are performing well, don't waste time on all the
detail! If you have problems the data is there to help.
We want to introduce 'intelligent report structuring', whereby you
receive a minimal amount of information unless you have a
problem, and then you get the 'Full Monty'. It could be that a
'Paper version' is the summary, while you can choose between,
summary, standard and detailed on the your secure area of the
web. You can already choose to print only the bits you need from
the current full web version.
As far as document control etc is concerned, why not use the
functionality of Acrobat to sign the pdf versions that we provide?
Download and burn files to CD. Let's get rid of the EQA paper
mountains!
We know that no single approach will satisfy our Participants'
needs, but I think this 'intelligent report structuring' on the web is
well on the way to being the answer. EQA isn't rocket science;
indeed it is as simple as ABC.
